USAID & Sri Lanka Tourism Board

This campaign was managed and directed by Vazul Szakacs during his previous tenure as Marketing Director.

Vision & Objectives

In partnership with USAID, Sri Lanka launched a transformative campaign to reposition itself as a high-yield tourism destination, capitalizing on its diverse niche offerings such as Art and Heritage, Agrotourism, Wellness, and Adventure.

Funded by USAID’s Indo-Pacific Opportunity Project (IPOP), the initiative aimed to create inclusive economic growth, strengthen MSME competitiveness, and promote sustainability across the tourism sector.

By showcasing Sri Lanka’s cultural depth and natural wonders, the campaign sought to attract high-value travelers from the United States, Western Europe, and India while diversifying the country’s global appeal.

Immersive Content Creation & Distribution

Over a 10-day journey, a carefully selected team of influencers explored twelve niche tourism categories, including Food & Drink, Nature & Wildlife, and Digital Nomads. The group produced 527 engaging social posts across Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms, supported by a targeted content strategy that amplified their reach.

Their storytelling highlighted Sri Lanka’s rich cultural and natural offerings, inviting global audiences to envision immersive, personalized adventures. Additionally, public-private partnerships were strengthened through interactions with local MSMEs, bolstering economic resilience and enhancing tourism infrastructure.

Influencer Partnerships & Authentic Engagement

On the ground, Vazul Szakacs ensured seamless coordination and served as a cultural guide and liaison between USAID, the Sri Lanka Tourism Board, and the influencers. His leadership extended to delivering remarks to key stakeholders, including dignitaries and prominent officials such as Julie Chung, U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka; Gabriel Grau, USAID Mission Director; and Chris Powers, USAID Chief of Party.

These engagements underscored USAID’s focus on locally-led development, capacity building, and fostering community empowerment. Vazul’s hands-on involvement enabled influencers to authentically capture Sri Lanka’s unique essence, driving global interest and inspiring countless future visits.
